MIA TOGO

Mia Togo grew up in the small town of Murrieta, Ca. She was an avid equestrian and dancer, those were the inspirations in her life. These pursuits dealt with energy, connection, and expression of her spirit. Little did she know this would pave the way to her love and devotion of yoga.

At 18 she left the equestrian world and went on to dance professionally. She worked in film, TV, stage, and music videos. During this time she earned her degree in Psychology from UCLA. The competitive world of dance revealed self doubt and insecurities that needed attention and healing. This led to her work with Mona Miller, her teacher, guide, and mentor. The process of self inquiry and self acceptance brought her to the love of moment with no attachment to the outcome. It was in the practice of vinyasa flow yoga that she began to feel her body as a temple for healing rather than struggle. This work taught her to trust the intuitive nature of who we are, not who we think we should be.

In 1996 Mia began her practice  of yoga. She studied with many teachers, finding wisdom from different styles and philosophies. With much respect for all forms of yoga, her passion is vinyasa flow. The synchronicity of the breath and movement creates an open sacred space where the body is informed through alignment and breath, the mind is focused, the emotion flows freely, and there is connection to the authentic self. Mia believes to live in the present we have to let go of unconscious conditioning and have an understanding of the  past. Left unchecked, the body holds on to patterns, negative belief systems and traumas. Mia believes that yoga takes us toward the human side of life to explore the shadow without judgment. Through this process we understand our true nature so we can embrace our light, express our creative energy, and love from our truth.

Mia began teaching in 2004. She is a Yoga Works certified teacher and a teacher trainer. She is also a mentor for the 300 hour program for Yoga Works. Mia teaches with an emphasis on detailed alignment so there is an intelligence and a purpose to her sequencing. Once the pose has been established, she encourages her students to go beyond it. The asanas allow the student to observe the energy they carry so that it reveals where healing is needed and transformation can take place. Mia believes we all have a purpose, a soul journey. It is through our fears that our courage is revealed and through the darkness we find our light. Her purpose as a teacher is to allow the student to have an authentic experience that is sacred, healing, uplifting, and inspired by spirit.
